Income tax, sales tax, bankers, auditors, investors. Those are all reasons I’ve been given as a reason to get a business’ bookkeeping cleaned up and up-to-date. I’m not disputing the necessity of meeting these obligations. What I do take issue with is making those reason the only time you even add up your numbers. You didn’t start your business just to satisfy tax authorities, bankers, or investors. Did you? What happened to the reason you started your business; your mission and vision. What about that ideal customer profile you spent hours (and money on courses) to define?
Your business finances tell the story of your business, reflecting every dollar you earn and every penny you spend. How well you serve your customers is reflected in your bottom line. And I don’t just mean likes, shares, and follows. All your numbers come together to tell the full story of your business. How do those likes, shares and follows reflect in your sales? When is the last time you really looked at all the numbers that contribute to your income?
